Lanes Open for Bowl for Kids' Sake Event
Durham,
NC, February 17, 2001The Big Brothers Big Sisters of
Durham and Orange
Counties held their first annual "Bowl
For Kids Sake' event, Saturday, February 17th. All lanes
were open at The Mardi Gras Bowling Center in Chapel Hill
for the daylong event.
"Bowl
For Kids Sake is a our annual event that helps Big
Brothers Big Sisters put more caring mentors into the lives
of children," explained Sabrina Slade, the agency's
Executive Director. "It
provides strong financial support to our agency,
making it possible to maintain both the quantity and quality
of services to the children in both Durham and Orange Counties."
Leaders
from the business community; Verizon, Bank of America,
Blue Cross Blue Shield; civic groups, local churches and
schools; friends and neighbors formed teams to participate
in the all-day event. "Bowl
For Kids Sake' is an opportunity to have fun together
while performing a community service," said Rick Brown
of Bank of America. "It's about kids,
a good cause and a great
time."
Joining
the day's event was "the new pride of the Carolinas," the
Carolina Courage. Team members of the world's
most talented women's professional soccer association,
WUSA, came out and Bowled For Kids. Deanna Evans, of the
Carolina Courage, said, "Leadership is our key
ingredient to success, both on and off the playing
field. As a young girl I had a 'Big Sister' and that
relationship had a real, positive effect in my
life. I look forward to our association with
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Durham and Orange Counties."
