Stormy,
Roary, and Wool E. Bull On The Same Team
Durham,
NC, February 16, 2002Area team mascots;
Hurricanes' Stormy, Carolina Courage's Roary, and Durham
Bulls' Wool E. Bull are coming out to "Bowl For Kids' Sake"
for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Durham and Orange Counties.
"Bowl
For Kids Sake" is the annual fundraising event
for the local agency of Big Brothers Big Sisters. This
Saturday, February 17th marks the second year for this
daylong event at The Mardi Gras Bowling Center in Chapel
Hill. Last years event drew more than 200 volunteer
bowlers. This year's community bowling day will include
volunteers from Verizon, C.C.B., Bank America, G.S.K.,
Durham Parks Dept., Durham Fire Dept, civic groups and
churches. Rick Brown, of Bank America and a board member
of Big Brothers Big Sisters, explains, "The workplace
doubles as one of the nation's most effective message
boards for volunteer opportunities. It's where one volunteer
in four learns about specific chances to help others. Bowl
For Kids Sake, is a great opportunity to engage our
employees, their families and friends. It's also a lot
of fun for a good cause."
A "Big
Little Bowling Hour" (1:00 to 2:00pm) has
been reserved "just for kids" on the day of the event.
Stormy, Roary, and Wool E. Bull will be bowling with kids
from the Big Brothers Big Sisters mentoring program and
other area youth groups.
Big
Brothers Big Sisters Executive Director, Sabrina Slade
says, "Bowl For Kids' Sake is really about having
fun for kids. All funds raised directly support-matching
'at
risk kids' with Big Brothers
Big Sister - right here in the Durham and Orange
Counties. It's truly exciting and gratifying to have the
support of all these volunteers
and the communities of Durham and Chapel Hill."
