Local Big Brothers Big Sisters Hosts "Bowl for Kids' Sake"

DURHAM, NC, JANUARY 28, 2005: Registration is now underway for bowlers and sponsors of the 5th annual “Bowl for Kids' Sake” (BFKS), the premier fundraiser benefiting the local Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) affiliate of Durham and Orange counties. This year’s event is scheduled for February 19, from 9 AM to 4 PM at the Mardi Gras Bowling Center in Chapel Hill.

The event is expected to draw hundreds of bowlers and sponsors from area businesses, colleges, and civic groups. Already, more than 20 teams have signed up, and 30 more teams are needed to reach the fundraising goal of $50,000.

According to Kimberly Breeden, executive director of BBBS of Durham and Orange Counties, “‘Bowl for Kids’ Sake’ is all about helping kids. To participate, you don’t have to be a good bowler, just someone who wants to give to the children in your community. All the money we raise will go toward matching children with caring adult volunteers.” She added that currently, 90 children, from ages 6 to 14, are waiting to be matched with a Big Brother or Sister.

Co-chairs of the 2005 “Bowl for Kids’ Sake” are Mike Lemanski who is also a Big Brother, and BBBS Board Member David Grossman. Guests of honor will be students and other representatives from the Durham Public Schools, as well as local Big Brothers and Big Sisters. Dozens of door prizes will be awarded, such as hotel stays at the Fontainebleau Hilton-Miami Beach and a weekend in New York City.

The community is invited to participate in Bowl for Kids’ Sake. For more information, contact Big Brothers Big Sisters of Durham & Orange Counties, 919-402-1811, or visit www.bbbsdo.org and click on ”Bowl For Kids’ Sake.” The agency’s representatives will provide volunteers with all the information they need to participate and will organize the team’s outing, including the sign-up of sponsors.
